Ahead of the release of her debut EP Apricot, “Not Anymore” sees Heist or Hit signee SKIA turn down the tempo and dial up the feels on a meandering and melancholy slow-jam.
Coming out of Norway via Liverpool, up-and-comer SKIA continues her fine run of form on the latest single to be taken from her upcoming debut EP. Having already penned a track with none other than Paul McCartney with the dazzling “Anyone” and the irresistible “IDWTAI”, it’s been a promising start for the singer and LIPA graduate.
Focussed on feelings of self-doubt and accompanied by wobbly synths, “Not Anymore” is a track that sounds like it’s been plucked right out of the sad-banger basket. Speaking about her reasons for penning a more downbeat song, SKIA says, “'Not Anymore' is about feeling like you’ve lost your way a bit and you’re not really sure how to move forward, and other people’s opinions and actions are distracting you from focusing on yourself and what’s best for you.
“I think a lot of people can recognise themselves in this, no matter what they’re doing in life, we all have days when we feel we can do absolutely anything, and then have days when we feel the opposite. I think most things work themselves out in the end though, and of course there’s a hint of that in the bridge. Power on!”
“Not Anymore” provides a satisfying complement to SKIA’s other releases, showcasing her ability to convey a range of musical emotions and proving herself as an adept songwriter. Detailing the themes behind the upcoming Apricot EP, SKIA says, “The overall theme of the EP is a mix of feeling confident, feeling insecure, growing up and letting go. ‘Lost’, ‘Not Anymore’ and ‘IDWTAI’ deal with the struggles of growing up and feeling lost, not knowing exactly where you’re supposed to be or what you’re supposed to do.”
