On "Hey Boy", SKIA’s ear for a catchy hook is on full display once again, set amidst punchy synth stabs and earworm-worthy backing vocals, with a self-assured message of determination.
Ending 2020 on a high with equally effervescent singles "Feeling Fine" and "Pocket", the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts graduate has been steadily making a name for herself over the last year with a succession of quality bops. Unashamedly straight-talking, imminently danceable pop continues to be the order of the day for Norwegian singer SKIA on her latest single "Hey Boy".
The confidence bursting out of SKIA on her new track hasn’t come easily, however. "It’s about having to plough through a lot of doubt, insecurities and uncertainties to reach your dreams," she explains. "Those doubts and insecurities often come from within, and in many ways this song is talking to doubt itself, saying that if you don’t have anything constructive to add to the situation, you can sit back and zip it. It’s an answer to doubt and disbelief whether it’s coming from society, yourself, or the drunk guy at the party”.
SKIA · Hey BoyIt’s another addition to an already first-rate back catalogue, building anticipation for the Oslo-hailing artist’s debut album, which is set to land towards the end of the year. While there’s seemingly no end of talent in the pool of Scandipop, SKIA continues to stand out with her own brand of fresh, relatable bangers.
