Siv Jakobsen teases the prospect of a new album with the London-set video for "To Leave You"
It's a little over a year since Norwegian singer Siv Jakobsen released her debut EP The Lingering, and while there's no debut album announced just yet we do have some new music in the form of the beautiful "To Leave You".
Jakobsen has been hard at work at Hackney's Urchin Studios recording with Matt Ingram (Laura Marling, The Staves) and Dan Cox (Thurston Moore, Lianne La Havas) but took some time out to wander some lovely cobbled streets while singing one of the songs which will appear on her album.
While the final recorded version of "To Leave You" promises a fuller sound, this live take is just Jakobsen and an acoustic guitar; the Norwegian's lilting folk voice is heart-meltingly pure and unadorned and her finger-picking simple and unfussy, meaning the song's emotional punch is undiluted by bells and whistles. When Jakobsen sings of "building cages round my chest to leave you out" and "I dont know of who I'm longing...is it you?" we're right there with her in the turmoil.
While we wait for more new music, Jakobsen will be out on tour supporting Benjamin Francis Leftwich for the rest of this month. Tickets and dates, including stops at Cardiff, Manchester and London, can be found here.
