Listen: Simian Ghost - "Never Really Knew"

“Never Really Knew” is the antidote to a bad day at work, a rainy afternoon, or even heartbreak. It’s the latter that the song deals in, albeit sprinkled with shimmering, warm and optimistic indie-pop.

Opening up with a stuttering, head-nodding beat, the vocals shine and arch over the song, gilted by saccharine-sweet backing vocals. Like someone giving you ice cream and Dear John at the same time, it’s as bittersweet as it’s uplifting. That’s quite a trick.
