Swedish megastar SHY Martin shares future hit "Out of My Hands"
Following multi-million-stream success with her previous singles, award-winning Swedish popstar SHY Martin reveals beguiling follow-up "Out of My Hands" whilst in the midst of a current European tour.
SHY Martin – whose real name is Sara Hjellström – only began her solo career in earnest in 2017, following a string of songwriting credits for chart-toppers including Bebe Rexha, Astrid S, Kygo, Ellie Goulding, ALMA, Jess Glynne, and The Chainsmokers. Following a feature slot as vocalist on Mike Perry's global smash hit "The Ocean", Hjellström decided it was time to strike out alone.
"Out of My Hands" sees Hjellström channel that independent spirit, setting a heartfelt lyric to bittersweet, lilting electro-pop. She deftly lifts production elements from mainstream dance music and weaves them organically into a sweetly vulnerable ballad, resulting in a track that straddles genre without losing its sense of identity.
"I wrote ‘Out of My Hands’ last summer together with three of my favourite songwriters: Freddy Alexander, SHY Nodi and Madison Love," Hjellström reveals of the track. "The song is about leaving behind a destructive relationship that you've become addicted to. When you've been in a relationship for a long time it's easier and less painful to stay in it, rather than leave it behind, as it’s so hard at the time to know who you are without the other person. I think that’s the reason why people tend to romanticise destructive relationships, and why it's so easy to fall right back into them."
Hjellström continues: "I can really relate to staying in a relationship for too long that you know isn’t good for either one of you and I think sometimes the best thing is to cut someone off completely after a break-up. It's always hard when you have to end a relationship because you need to, and not because you want to."
