SHELLS darts in and out of the shadows on intricate alt-R&B track "Jagwar"
UK artist SHELLS is cutting the ribbon on her divine new alt-R&B single "Jagwar".
"Jagwar" follows debut song "Gold" in previewing SHELLS' first EP. It's a labyrinthine cut with pulsing bass and rickety percussion echoing in the shadows. Strings and atmospheric synths provide some warmth, with SHELLS crooning over the top of the angular melee below, but it's never a simple listen - there's tension stretched between each terse note and disparate strands hoofing it in various directions. It's an intricate, spiderwebby ode with passion and darkness filtered through each beat.
Succinctly explaining the song, SHELLS says: "'Jagwar' is about letting go of something you love, and being stronger for it."
SHELLS' debut EP is out in November. She'll be playing her first-ever headline date at London's The Forge on 14 September.
