Seance Crasher unveils searing fuzzed-out pop-rock number “Shotgun”
On the dreamy new single “Shotgun”, Seance Crasher fuses funk-laden grooves with taut pop melodies to create a blistering and infectious throwback.
Seance Crasher is the recording pseudonym of Portland-based artist Kevin Rafn. Since the project’s 2013 inception, the musician has released two EPs and one LP, which have been widely lauded in his hometown's music community.
Lifted from forthcoming sophomore record Gentle Cycle, the new track “Shotgun” is a succinct and bouncy pop cut that captures the sonics of the 60s and 70s with its warm analogue tones and themes of psychedelia. Atmospheric synths swirl amid textured percussion and thoughtfully wandering riffs, while the hypnotic vocals of Rafn effortlessly captivate. An unexpected yet stunning flute arrangement floats elegantly above, allowing the song to find its extra gear.
“The song attempts to capture the sound of the introspection inherent in the recording process,” explains Rafn. ““Shotgun” began with a drum loop recorded onto reel-to-reel tape and then slowed down a bit to achieve a deeper tone and a relaxed pace. The flute solo and bongos were performed by Papi Fimbres.”
