Scrounge channel the intensity of daily life on punchy new track "Badoom"
South London duo Scrounge are back with their punchy new single "Badoom" which channels the intensity and demanding nature of daily life.
The duo begin their new offering with a foreboding, chugging guitar melody teamed with a repetitive crashing hi-hat beat.
Guitarist and singer Lucy introduces her vocals with a tense monologue of statements about hearing her own heartbeat and the weight of the world on her shoulders. As the track progresses, Lucy revisits earlier lyrics, speaking directly to the listener in a manner that makes it sound like a different day, circling the same feelings to imitate feeling trapped by mundane events.
Lucy reminds the listener of a familiar feeling of being tired, dragging the instrumentals through a fuzzy, riotous melody that builds tension with a booming bass drum before unleashing the tension through a cathartic crash of cymbals and a grungy guitar melody.
Speaking about their new single, Scrounge explain, ""Badoom" represents the release of the underlying tension caused by the stress and mundanity of everyday life. Centred around a repeated lyrical mantra, churning guitars, and a rising sense of hysteria, "Badoom" is chaotic yet cathartic."
As the track reaches its peak, Luke’s drums break the glass, unleashing a chaotic beat that channels a liberating feeling of freedom. Lucy's vocals escalate and bring the track to an abrupt stop; the vibrations of their instruments still lingering in the shadows.
The duo will be hosting Haus of Scrounge at Deptford's Sister Midnight Records, London tomorrow (28 September). Confirmed acts include Italia 90, Great Dad, Hussy, Jemma Freeman and the Cosmic Something, Ailsa Tully, and Dome Zero. Find out more.
