"The Moon" is a declaration of confidence and contentment for Toronto’s Saya
The brand new track is the third to be taken from her forthcoming EP Sugar Coated.
Brewing the same moody undercurrents as Goldilox with the playful, club-ready energy of Charli XCX, Saya has been making waves with her tropical summer jam "Played Out" and the slow burning tones of "Side Ting".
Channelling lazily bassy beats and a 90s R&B sentimentality, "The Moon" strikes a perfect balance between her juxtaposing shades. Deploying a far more chilled out vibe than her recent releases, the Canadian artist brings a soulful vocal and a quiet, self-assured swagger to the track embued by a confidence that belies her 23 years.
"I wrote ‘The Moon’ in 2016 during a big writing trip in London, UK," Saya says of the track which - despite its moody nature - speaks of her newfound sense of satisfaction. "In the song I’m riding my own wave of happiness and freedom, on my own time, and in my own world. I was at a point where I was letting go of residual anger from my past and moving forward. Moments of peace only come once and a while for me so I’m happy I could translate that into a song."
