Listen: Sau Poler - "For NYC" [UK Premiere]
Spanish producer Sau Poler returns with “For NYC” - our second taste of his forthcoming Paradoxes of Progress EP- premiering today on Best Fit.
The title suggests that the artist’s heart may have been somewhere else, but the sound of “For NYC” is distinctly European. With little else but a brief vocal sample, a swinging Balearic beat, pulsing synth overtones, and feathery, flute-like accents, Poler cleverly evokes the island of Ibiza, not Manhattan.
Though it expertly draws the listener deeper and deeper, “For NYC” (and the rest of the EP it’s drawn from) never overstays its welcome. The song is a sketch, a vignette in a series of vignettes, giving atmosphere and context in spades and keeping the content murky. Rather than telling a story, it invites the boldest listeners to discover their own.
