Sälen's silky synthpop song "Copper Kiss" is brutal and beautiful
The trio behind “IILWMBF” and “Diseasey” are back with another dose of straight-talking synth-pop.
As previous listeners will be well aware, much of Sälen’s appeal comes from their no-frills approach to lyrics. Their honest, no-nonsense perspective is as present in “Copper Kiss” as in previous releases, with talk of spit and stains taking centre stage. The track itself is jaunty pop, led by the artful electronics we’ve come to expect.
Sälen is made up of Ellie Kamio, Paul Taylor Wade and Is Tropical’s Simon Milner, but everything else about the band seems shrouded in mystery. Endorsements from i-D, Fader, and Radio 1’s Annie Mac preceded a sold out debut show at Dalston’s Birthdays last summer. Later this month the trio are scheduled to appear at new London venue Kamio (formerly The Red Gallery). Tickets are available through DICE.
