The 2018 winner of The Voice UK, Ruti returns with the sun-kissed neo-soul of new single "My Sunrise".
With a strikingly powerful voice and a determined mindset already confirmed amongst Ruti’s talents, listeners can now add creator of sun-kissed neo soul to the list. It’s been a somewhat up and down journey since the Essex based singer won season seven of The Voice in the UK back in 2018; her debut EP Racing Cars rose to the top of the charts two years ago, but things have been a little quieter since then. For listeners, however, the wait has been well and truly worth it, as Ruti returns with her fabulously warm single "My Sunrise" for the start of 2021.
The track evokes memories of sunnier times - lazy, hazy days spent in the park with friends, unaware of how carefree we really were. Ruti’s timeless vocals work wonders amidst the layered beats and sprinklings of brass. Reminiscent of Corinne Bailey Rae and Lianne La Havas at their peaks, the sound of “My Sunrise” remains distinctly Ruti’s and shines towards brighter times ahead.
“'My Sunrise' isn't really about or for anyone in particular. In some ways I wrote it for myself," Ruti explains of the new single. "It's a reminder that often there's a lot more time to do things than I think I have and have to allow ourselves to stop or slow down sometimes.
"Obviously I wrote in a Covid-free time so I was imagining taking a break somewhere else for a while, but I still have to give myself space to breathe working from home, because it gets so overwhelming.”
