Ruby Francis explores vulnerability in soulful new Blue Lab Beats collab “Let Me In”
The latest instalment taken from her anticipated debut full-length, “Let Me In” sees Ruby Francis join forces with jazztronica duo Blue Lab Beats to deliver what can only be described as a stellar collaboration.
Ruby Francis has been making noise on the alternative/electro-R&B scene since the release of her debut EP back in 2017. The last year has seen the North London artist deliver singles that undoubtedly promises great things for her album arriving later this year and brand-new addition “Let Me In” does not disappoint.
Accompanied by effortlessly groovy percussion and intimately woozy synths, Francis’ vocals are passionate and personal, seamlessly creating a comforting and sheltered soundscape. With sonic nods to 90s tinted neo soul and 00s tinged R&B, lyrics orbiting openness and vulnerability weave in and out fluidly throughout in perfectly aligned smoothness.
Having first heard the Blue Lab Beats instrumental during a car journey to Brighton’s Great Escape festival, Ruby eventually ended up finishing the track on her best friend, and fellow “Let Me In” writer, Laura Roy’s living room floor.
“I fell in love with the 70’s percussion, gorgeous synth sounds and the colours and movements of the chords,” Francis says about the track. “It’s a personal experience about exploring vulnerability within a relationship, but it’s something that can be interpreted by everyone in some way,” she explains further. “We all need to practice vulnerability to set ourselves free.”
