Listen: Ruben Haze – “Phoenix” [Premiere]
Formed by Dragan Roganovic of Australia’s Dirty South and vocalist Rudy Sandapa, new “collaborative live-act” Ruben Haze unveil “Phoenix”, a compelling slow-burner from their debut EP City Of Dreams. It premieres today on Best Fit.
Opening with Spanish-inflected guitar kisses and simmering synth wobs, “Phoenix” appears as an unusual acoustic/electronic crossover, albeit doused in pop sentiments with studio-fit vocals. There’s certainly a live sound to it – from fingers slides to breathy huffs – all bolstered at the end by padded stomps, gospel-like harmonies and grave string progressions. A promising first listen.
“Phoenix” features on Ruben Haze’s debut EP (out on Phazing Records), available to pre-order from iTunes tomorrow (11 March).
