Singer and mental health advocate Rosie Carney debuts confessional new single “Awake Me”
Donegal-based Rosie Carney’s delicate folk has already seen the young singer-songwriter compared to such greats as Joni Mitchell.
On upcoming single “Awake Me”, Carney’s voice is framed by little more than gentle guitar. Her soaring melodies shoulder lyrical complexities that belie her young years. Despite her youth, she’s able to draw from a wealth of emotional experience, influenced by her early introduction to the music industry and the ensuing toll taken on her mental health.
Over the past year, Carney has openly documented her own struggles with mental illness via her blog; outlining the impacts bullying, sexual assault, and disordered eating have had on her life. These experiences feed directly into her music, used as a platform to support and uplift others in similar situations. This same raw honesty rings clear throughout the confessional lyrics of “Awake Me” and its exploration of these still-stigmatised themes and ideas.
