rhêtorík merges genres seamlessly on new track "Caged Up"
Virginia-born musician rhêtorík takes a step back from being Logic's tour DJ to showcase his own talent in new track "Caged Up".
You might not know rhêtorík by name, but he's not a newcomer to the music industry. Having worked alongside the likes of Logic, and Childish Gambino for his STN MTN mixtape, rhêtorík is finally ready to give his own material a push.
"Caged Up" blends vintage tones with infectious electronica. Fusing multiple instruments and atmospheres, rhêtorík manages to find a balance of jazz, rap, electronica, and to some extent, pop.
Winding elegantly between summery trumpets, humming synths and intricate electronic beats, rhêtorík builds on a solid foundation to provide a track worthy of blasting full volume while cruising in a convertable.
Speaking to Complex about the track, rhêtorík explains, "The inspiration for “Caged Up” came from a self-imposed bout of strictly platonic relationships. That’s what we’ll call it. I shut down all old flings, new flings, potential flings—anything. I wanted this project to be a reflection project, so I didn’t want anyone new to influence it while I was writing. And as you can probably assume, this celibacy naturally left my hormones feeling a little… caged up."
Having built up all the way up from bouts of homelessness while living in New York, rhêtorík has completely switched his life around, and is now pursuing his own music with this new found confidence.
