Rayland Baxter visits legendary Nashville studio, watch footage of "Mr Rodriguez"
Following on from the release of his debut album Imaginary Man earlier this summer, rising alt-country tinged newcomer Rayland Baxter paid a visit to legendary Nashville studio Southern Ground (owned by Zac Brown) to cut a new take of album opener "Mr Rodriguez".
"It was awesome to be in Southern Ground Studios for the day." Baxter recalls. "We were able to get together all the original members who recorded on Imaginary Man which was not an easy task considering they live all over the place. Everyone who played on the album version of 'Mr. Rodriguez' was there for the session. We had chicken wings and cola for lunch - that was delicious too."
"Mr. Rodriguez is a song I wrote after spending some time in Detroit a few years ago. The city made me feel something that I had never felt about a city. The history...the decay...the rebirth of a city that was once great, maybe becoming great again. Living Iike a king in a dream but waking up under the bridge with my kin…shivering."
