Listen: Rathborne - "Why" [Premiere]
New York's Rathborne releases his new album Soft (co-produced by The Strokes' guitarist/keysman Albert Hammond Jr.) on 16 February. We have the premiere of his relentlessly upbeat new track, "Why".
Speaking about the song, Luke (Rathborne) said: "For this track I just started messin' with the lyrics. I wanted to pay respects to the American bands I grew up with like The Violent Femmes. "I Stick To You Like Glue", that's about getting caught to someone and not being able to get away. "I suck, you suck, we suck together girl." That's one of my favorite lyrics on the LP. It captures the dumbness you feel in a relationship, especially when it goes down a path you don't want it to. It's almost sung from the perspective of some dumb angel, trying to ingratiate himself to someone even against their own better judgement or will."
Or in the wise words of Albert Hammond Jr., Rathborne's music "makes me hard."
Fun, relentless and scrappy garage with underlying punk sentiments, stream "Why" below.
