Ratboys are happy to take things at their own pace on new song “Westside”
Hailing from Chicago, Ratboys make their own brand of indie rock that’s mixed up with just a dash of Country flavouring.
New track “Westside” is a stunning example of just how good this mix can be, with a strung-out, dreamy feeling that's as if the whole track has been dipped in sepia.
Julie Steiner’s vocals drift along and hang in the air in a manner not too dissimilar to Kurt Vile’s relaxed delivery, whilst lyrics like “I fall asleep to the memories / Of my dreams” only add to the woozy nature of the song. This isn’t to say “Westside” is directionless, though. The track gently builds towards a crescendo throughout, with the guitar gaining more and more prominence until it eventually dominates the song; a blinding sunset to cap off the musical equivalent of a hazy August afternoon.
