Rare DM (fka Errmine) drops blacklit dance-pop cut "Caracal" ahead of debut album
Erin Louise Hoagg garnered acclaim with her debut single under previous moniker Errmine. Since 2017, however, she's been building a catalogue as Rare DM, with latest addition "Caracal" out 15 February.
"Caracal" is a skeletal, bottom-heavy cut, deftly constructed to embody that 4am haze where a night out slowly blurs into morning. With vocals that hark to London Grammar and their ilk, the track leans heavily on the influences of underground dance music in its production: an oscillating sub-bass backdrop and snappy, sometimes jarring percussion. It's a sparkling, streamlined effort built of several very different layers, precisely engineered to give texture and intrigue without unnecessary bulk.
"Caracal" is lifted from Rare DM's forthcoming debut album, Vanta Black, due out 12 April. The album's name refers to the blackest manmade pigment, currently under exclusive license to controversial artist Anish Kapoor for artistic use.
