Globetrotting duo R.O x Konoba unveil the stunning visuals for their latest euphoric offering
Electronic producer R.O and singer-songwriter Konoba embarked on a unique journey they baptised Project 10. This successfully crowd-funded adventure sees them travelling across 10 countries for 10 months to create 10 tracks for their debut album which is due to be released next April.
Stepping outside the comfort of the Belgian countryside, globetrotters Olivier Rugi and Raphael Esterhazy spent the whole month of May in Germany where they wrote “Too Much Too Soon” in their small car as they travelled around, sharing a place with 30 students in Stuttgart and staying in various Airbnbs across Cologne and Munich.
The resulting song addresses the dilemma between escaping into wanderlust and the desire to create deep meaningful relationships with people. This conflict of interests is something that the pair both suffer from while constantly being on the road. They sing “I could leave now / Not making a sound / But I want to see what it feels like / So baby let’s get high”, showing how they battle between the choice of leaving or building a strong bond with someone.
On “Too Much Too Soon”, we’re easily drawn in by Konoba’s haunting falsetto and the unhurried pace of R.O’s percussion, throwing the blinds open to an array of sounds recorded in the streets of Berlin such as the tenor saxophone whilst other subtle textures and samples are easy to miss at first glance. The pair adeptly blend electronics and live instrumentation, where Konoba’s looping guitar plucks and multi-layered vocals meet R.O’s shower of atmospheric synth swirlings and crisp production.
The track has been accompanied by a new stunning music video shot in Poland by Marcin Plawnicki around the coastal cities of Gdansk, Sopot and in the Wroclaw mountains. The prolific sound architects are currently in Italy and will be heading to Georgia, Japan and Australia in the next few months to collaborate with local artists and continue their magic.
