Quarry delves into the human experience on "Puppy Tears"
Taken from his debut mixtape Is That What You Call Love?, British songwriter Quarry releases his upbeat single “Puppy Tears”, showcasing his ability to delve into and break down complex issues through the lens of his infectious and soulful pop sound.
Diving into the everyday feelings of the human experience, the mixtape takes listeners on a journey oscillating seamlessly between sombre and playful, with lead single “Puppy Tears” bringing in a much needed dose of sultry sophistication. With a groovy sound wrapped up in catchy beats and the stunning power of Quarry’s (aka Ash Carvell) vocals, the track, laid on a foundation of slick pop production, is a standout in the tracklist for its mellow stylings.
Tapping into his well-established versatility as an artist and songwriter, Quarry delicately balances emotive vulnerability with an easy-going, almost hypnotic delivery which warmly invites listeners into the sonic world he is carefully crafting. Drawn from the corners of his creative psyche, the track “holds real pieces of my heart” in Quarry’s own words, and is an honest, relatable peek into shared human experiences.
"Like all my favourite songs I can still feel it in my stomach when I listen back. It still hits me the same way as when I wrote it, and it makes me want to reach out and lay my heart on the table," shares Quarry. "To me, all these songs feel like looking you dead in the eye as I expose my unprotected heart to a dangerous world."
Quickly rising to stardom through his authentic lyricism and experimental style, Is That What You Call Love? is the next step for Quarry. With his heavy introspection and inflections of light-heartedness, he beckons in a promising career ahead.
