As introductions go, “Cry Baby Cry” is a crushing handshake or, at the very least, a bruising embrace from newcomers PROM.
It’s rare to find a band, especially in their debut release, matching a track with such glorious simplicity in moving image. The sight of a writhing male band member in a clinging dress twitching as vicious guitars and relentless percussion reaches its ferocious crescendo is a inimitable match. By the video’s closing seconds, the full band are in on the act, bringing the song (produced by Mike Page) to a snarling halt.
While we don’t know much about PROM, aside from scuttling from the capital’s underbelly, this is a breathless potshot of intent. Our next taster can’t come soon enough.
