Surely it’s time for a proper kraut revival? Can got a well-deserved reappraisal a couple of years back, but given the endless cyclical trajectory of contemporary music, presumably it’s only a matter of time before a krauty band appear on the cover of the NME again?
Siinai are making that (admittedly rather odd) possibility slightly more realistic with the release of their debut album, Olympic Games. ‘Marathon’ is indicative of the band’s ambition, and characteristic of their Olympic fetish; it is the sound of modernity (a nice counterpoint to the post-modernity of today’s Song Of The Day), of gloriously absurd public spectacles. It sounds, in fact, like propaganda music – think of it as the musical equivalent of Soviet realism. Or something.
