PJ Harvey is writing the score for new play The Nest
PJ Harvey is set to write the score for the upcoming translation of The Nest by German playwright Franz Xaver Kroetz opening in London later this year.
The play will star Caoilfhionn Dunne and Laurence Kinlan and debut at Belfast's Lyric Theatre on 1 October (until 22 October). It'll run for a month (28 October-26 November) at London's Young Vic's Maria Theatre.
A press release explains the play: "Kurt and Martha will soon become parents. They both work hard to provide for their new family, to give their child the best and most comfortable start in life. They have to - the perfect buggy doesn’t come cheap. But when Kurt’s boss offers him a chance to make some easy money, his decision threatens the health of his family and the entire community. Questioning the moral cost of an increasingly materialistic society, Ian Rickson’s production draws out the sharp relevance of this urgent and timely two-hander."
Harvey composed the score and recorded it in London with James Johnston - it's the latest in a series of collaborations with director Rickson, with Harvey previously contributing music to his productions of Hedda Gabler, Hamlet, and Electra.
Harvey's latest LP The Hope Six Demolition Project is out now.
