PILLARS - "Attacker" (Deafkid Remix) [Premiere]
Remixes are a fine art; all too often a great track is taken and shaken but fails to really stir. Done properly, a rework brings something new, embellishing the original into a stand-alone creation that begs to be revisited. And that’s where Deafkid step-in.
Back in the summer PILLARS unveiled her debut outing to relatively little fanfare but “Attacker” deserves attention. The beautifully haunting track aligns the London-based 19-year-old with the likes of Rosie Lowe and new XL-signee Lapsley thanks to its slow-burning simplicity, clapping along with a gentle subtlety.
Now, ahead of an undoubtedly busy 2015, the elusive newcomer is set to release a remix EP this winter with Deafkid taking the lead. The Zane Lowe ‘Next Hyped’ duo rub their dark electronic hue all over the cut while still allowing PILLARS' cascading vocal to carry the track. A building bass synth and organic rhythms sit alongside in this stunningly heady rework.
PILLARS said of the project: “It's hard allowing others to tamper with your original works, but everyone involved with the remix EP has been really creative with the track and has produced a truly personalised version of it. The joining of creative minds is something I'm very passionate about and this only enhanced that.”
Premiering below, stream this new track which melds two exciting young artists and simultaneously proves that something special can still come from a remix.
