Producer Jonathan Elkær and singer Mads Bo have hit upon the idea of being stuck in a Swedish furniture showroom as a metaphor for starting over on "IKEA Episodes".
Some might say that's a tricky one to pull off but as Bo croons lines about his girlfriend leaving and taking the bed and paintings with her, you're willing him to get over it all by buying a Billy bookcase.
Bo's falsetto is playfully heartbroken, while Elkær's beats and synths are colourful and extracting the last heat from the early autumn sun. It's a smooth and modern take on R&B...and Phlake do it so well.
"IKEA Episodes" is taken from Weird Invitations, out 6 October. Phlake will be playing the Eurosonic festival (which has a focus on the Danish music industry) in January 2018.
