The smooth R&B of "Angel Zoo" points to a big future for Phlake
Having taken their native Denmark by storm in 2015, Phlake are unleashing their giant single "Angel Zoo" on UK audiences.
Made up of hip hop producer Jonathan Elkær and singer Mads Bo, the duo met five years ago and describe their music as "mixing the smoothness of R&B with the roughness of hip-hop."
With previous single "Pregnant" going platinum there's a lot of focus on Phlake to deliver again, but with "Angel Zoo" oozing class that worry is straight out the window. With simple beats pitched between hip hop grit and D'Angelo smoothness, soulful piano lines are allowed to boom across the track while Mads Bo delivers a falsetto vocal which has just a touch of gravel to it but soars during a chorus urging the listener to live for the moment. The music might have taken a darker turn and Bo's vocal has more of a sense of urgency to it, but this is a song destined to soundtrack life's more memorable moments.
