Petticoat dances through heartbreak on “Get Loose!”

LA-based singer, songwriter, and producer David Halsey, aka Petticoat, has been creating 80’s synth laden pop songs from his bedroom studio throughout 2021. Now on his sophomore EP, “Get Loose” is the danceable anthem to get you moving.

Bathed in glossy synths and shiny guitar riffs, “Get Loose!” details Halsey’s impulse reactions of heartbreak alongside mood swings and emotional chaos. The 24-year-old channels hints of The 1975 as he bounces from each hook to catchy melody, perfectly pairing with the vocal sample across the track.

“For me the song isn’t as introspective” says Halsey. “It’s a fictitious love story that is acknowledged through tongue-in-cheek self-doubt. I was listening to a lot of shallow heartbreak pop songs, and the concept of “Get Loose!” didn’t click right off the bat. Instead, it was this melding of narratives over time that led me to what you are hearing now.”

Based in the retro-chick House of Adora in Nashville, the video for “Get Loose!” was filmed by the Nashville-based director, photographer, and creative, Chase Denton. Speaking on the video, Denton added, “In the 'Get Loose!' video I looked to evoke the same feeling the song inherently has; an invitation to dance and move your body in whichever way feels natural. In the midst of the groove, there are moments of loneliness. I wanted to make sure those moments were seen in the video - that after a breakup, freedom can turn into lonesomeness real quick.”

Petticoat released his debut EP Hedon earlier this year, and since then, when he’s not been listening to video game soundtracks, working with his Monomachine synthesizer, and exploring artistic self-actualization, Halsey has been quietly working on a new EP project – Tumbleweed. “Get Loose!” is the first cut from the EP, and sets the bar pretty high for what’s to come.
