Peach Tree Rascals don’t fit a genre and neither does latest track "Things Won't Go My Way"
Peach Tree Rascal’s music is as much a sum of its members as it is a sum of their differences.
While the bands sonic influences are unique to each member, ranging from Arabic music for Tarrek Abdel-Khaiq, to West-Coast Hip-Hop movements led by Dr. Dre for singer Issac Pech, and then to Jorge Olazaba’s favourites Rex Orange County and Tyler The Creator; their underlying influence is the friends and family constant in their lives.
“I think I can speak on behalf of all of us in saying that people inspire us. We all come from different backgrounds and places in the world, but one thing that is consistent for all of us is the importance of family. We write a lot about people close to us and their experiences, but I think that our stories are relatable to a lot of people on a bigger scale,” says producer Dom Pizano.
Perhaps that’s why their music, described by the band as ‘genre-bending’, toes so many eclectic lines. Their melodic ideas come from the disruptors in music who push boundaries, inspiring them to do the same. The product is a sound that combines the hasty pace of rap with breathy synth harmonies, and smooth riffs with sharper sonic turns. “I think that we fit anywhere we want to. We fit in anywhere where people enjoy music,’ explains Isaac, with Tarrek adding: “We try to make happy music. Period. Everyone is making sad and depressing music right now - our goal is to make sad music that is optimistic, or music that is happy.”
And so comes latest track “Things Won’t Go My Way,” an ethereal ballad with an austere message, against a breezy spring-time melody. Olazaba, the band’s creative director, describes this ideology: “We wrote this song to represent the moment that a lot of us feel when everything is going wrong. We hope people listen to the song though and think… ‘Hey, maybe I’m having a bad day, but this isn’t permanent.’”
“Things Won’t Go My Way” was the result of the band’s collaborative process and epitomizes the strength of that with its cross-cultural musical tapestry. Peach Tree Rascals are collaboratively making a musical meal brim full of different influence, inspiration, melodies and backgrounds; but they are stirring the sound on a table of talent.
