Listen: Papercuts – “Life Among the Savages”
After spending two years perfecting his imminent album of the same name, Papercuts’ Jason Quever proves he is still a master of indie-pop perfection on new song, “Life Among the Savages”.
Ahead of the release of the long-awaited successor to 2011′s ambitious and acclaimed Fading Parade, San Francisco’s Papercuts are perhaps proof to the claim that good things come to those who wait. No stranger to purveying indie-pop anthems of heartbreak, “Life Among the Savages” is another melodically crafted production that also manages to remain heartfelt, in particular when Quever effortlessly exhales,“Just leave me here, I don’t wanna go”, over an engaging and spirited accompaniment.
Combining together airy vocals reminiscent of psychedelic-pop stalwarts Circulatory System and an orchestral, meticulously delivered melody created by a combination of strings, piano, bass and drums, “Life Among the Savages” is the perfect example of why alternative pop music still has life and longevity. Managing to perfectly marry together youthful energy and wide-eyed wonder with melancholy, the song is a lucid and smooth addition to Papercuts’ eclectic back-catalogue, as well as being a must for any hazy summer day playlist – in particular if you enjoy a bit of sombreness with your psych-pop.
Papercuts release their new album Life Among The Savages on 12 May via Memphis Industries.
