Palberta level up on the ambitious harmonies of "Corner Store"
New York trio Palberta are back with their new single "Corner Store". This latest outing follows recent release "Before I Got Here" and is taken from their anticipated new album Palberta5000, set for release 22 January.
Palberta have set about doing something a little different on their new material. Having made a name for themselves with 2018’s raucous Roach Going Down, new single "Corner Store" strikes a far more considered and harmonious tone.
Taken from their new album Palberta5000 - set for release early next year - the new single creates a feeling of constant motion on a track that is as much about challenging their own back catalogue as it is about maintaining their position at the forefront of the East Coast DIY scene.
Opening on twangy guitar lines reminiscent of those employed by Gang of Four more than 40 years ago, Palberta show that they have not lost the DIY punk edge that has made the band so widely tipped for success. It is in the vocal harmonies that Palberta have shown their development as musicians, offering a lush mixture of voices that welcome the listener into the new realm the New York trio have made for themselves.
Highlighting their bold moves to incorporate pop elements into their punk sensibilities, the band have opened up on their recent musical transition, stating, “While punk music was our first love, pop music has become our fixation. Throughout the making of Palberta5000, we were focused on making music that people could not only sing along to but get stuck in their heads... that and attempting to make songs longer than 50 seconds…
"While our melodies have gotten more melodic and our singing less harsh, we haven’t strayed too far from who Palberta is, defiantly Palberta. And no one will shape us to be otherwise.”
