New Gen-affiliate and WSTRN/Bonkaz cosigned Paige Lihya drops "Dangerous"
The women of London are killing it in music right now and Paige Lihya's set to join the likes of Kamille, Poppy Ajudha, Cosima and as one to watch in 2018.
Lihya dropped a rough and ready five-track EP earlier this year titled In My Thoughts which featured a guest spot from Bonkaz (she reciprocated on the closing track to his Quality Control 2.0 mixtape) and she's also working with the New Gen imprint who put out that amazing compliation last year. "Dangerous" sees the 18-year-old team up with fellow North West London resident, rapper Knucks. Rising UK producer Skye Chai is on production duties.
"Dangerous" continues an intelligent exploration of the experiences of young women in love, a theme established on In My Thoughts. “This song is about two individuals in my life and the struggles in the relationship I've witnessed first hand," Lihya explains. "I decided to call it 'Dangerous' because, I feel this person is a walking fire ball that does nothing but cause damage to people around him."
Lihya was writing songs at 13 and cites Mary J Blige, Missy Elliot and Beyonce as inspirations. She used to go the studio sessions with Haile from WSTRN, who she credits as the a motivating factor in her writing - Haile got in touch after hearing Lihya's songs on YouTube and seeing her perform on Facebook.
