Shadowy - yet somehow familiar - pan-European collective P2X unleash the stunning "Spreadaround"
We don't know much about the mostly-Icelandic P2X, but their debut single "Spreadaround" is a trap and glitch-laden beauty.
P2X (short for Portal 2 Xtacy) describe themselves as a "pan-Scandinavian-European-UK art collective consisting of 10 non-facial members named 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11. No one is number 1. The group defines itself as a post-Brexit, feminist art collective that wants to share the passion of creativity free of the constructs of race, gender and patriarchy."
While the mystery certainly adds to the appeal of "Spreadaround" and P2X, the track itself is strong enough to stand on its own. Occupying a similar space to GANGLY's "Holy Grounds", the trap beats itch and scratch around, never settling into a rhythm, while various sampled and pitch-bent vocals circle the repeated female incantation of the song's title. This is some unsettling, fucked-up music - and utterly compelling.
