Listen: Orange Gold Red – “Wayward”
What with the golden swathes of talent oozing from Brooklyn’s underbelly recently, you could be forgiven for letting Orange Gold Red slip your mind. Thankfully, the duo have returned with “Wayward”, a sumptuous slice of dream pop that gently reminds us as to why we fell for them in the first place.
Layers of gooey synths and languorous strings are woven by Andrew Gregory in delicate fashion, gorgeously underpinning Kate Copeland’s hushed vocal. It transports the listener to lengthy days of lounging on grassy verges, gulping icy mouthfuls of frothy beer and the glorious prickle of heat against bare skin.
With a debut LP in the works, Orange Gold Red’s stranglehold over our heart’s shows little sign of subsiding. For now, “Wayward” (and accompanying B-side “Riptide”) should keep us ticking over until Gregory and Copeland reveal an album’s worth of beautiful, seasonal fragility.
