Only Girl explores the value of relationships on “Fortune”
Only Girl’s catalogue of futuristic, R&B-influenced pop has been growing steadily for some time now. This week sees her add the soaring “Fortune” to her arsenal.
With her usual captivating vocal prowess, “Fortune” sees Only Girl turning her lyrical attention to the worth of relationships. It’s an emotive exploration of a the value in a future with someone, and a caution not to take that for granted.
The clarity of Only Girl’s vocal performance cannot be overstated, and much the same can be said of her competence as a songwriter. “Fortune” is balanced and expressive, with a warm, choral-backed chorus and muted electronic production that subtly showcases her talents rather than brazenly showing them off.
