Moscow's On-The-Go balance bright folktronica with sad goodbyes on "Unsaid"
On their latest offering "Unsaid", Moscow-based quintet On-The-Go wrap their regret-filled lyrics in a blanket of bright folktronica.
"Unsaid" is the fourth single to be lifted from On-The-Go's forthcoming album of the same name, and opens with a breezy, upbeat melody of washy guitars that fade in and out to create a psychedelic, dream-like effect.
Lead singer Yura Makarychev's crooning vocals intertwine with the isolated bass on the first verse as he revisits fond memories with a loved one, and tries to squeeze some final words out of that person before they leave.
The bright instrumentals juxtapose the melancholic lyrics, as Markarychev sings of hoping to drown in a lake, before a crash of drums elevates the dark lyrics into a lighter realm, propelled forward with angelic harmonies and the persistent strums of an acoustic guitar.
In the second half of "Unsaid", the electronic elements interfere with the vibrant instrumentals to reveal a sparse, lullaby-like verse. Before long, the bright melodies return, drawing the track to a more optimistic close.
