Olympians stream "office pop" record Reasons To Be Tearful
Norwich/London foursome Olympians are streaming their new self-described "office pop" record Reasons To Be Tearful on Best Fit.
Reasons To Be Tearful is a record that mixes acerbic wit with desperate woe - it's frequently way too accurate about life and reality, but even frequentlyier, it's funny. The music is imperfect and endearing, with fuzzy melodies that burrow deep into your mind and a cornucopia of poignant lyrics. It's a well-rounded record with plenty to love, if you don't mind a touch of pessimism with your lo-fi pop. It's like a less rowdy Los Campesinos! after a particularly bad week.
The band's Daniel J. Harvey has written a bit for Best Fit about the LP/themselves:
Hi. We are Olympians, a music band. I can't say any of us have ever had what you might call real jobs, but if we did, we are in general agreement that the kind of job that we would like is a Lord Mayor or something, where we spent most of our time visiting new things that had been built in town, say a few words about what benefit it may or may not have to the community, cut the ribbon with some hilariously misproportioned and ultimately impractical scissors and then head off in a comfortable hire purchase vehicle after a cursory shuffle round the breaded chicken areas of the buffet. However, despite the many hours we have whiled away discussing such fictional avenues of employment, when it comes to announcing and somewhat cutting the ribbon on this, our first music album, we are at a loss for what to say. It exists, ultimately, because we started it and eventually decided finishing it would be less work than carrying around the weight of guilt we'd inevitably feel for failing to do so. Therefore, here it is, our album. Our rock music album. A rock music album by a rock music band. Thank God that's over.
Reasons To Be Tearful is out 24 June via Barely Regal. You can pre-order it now.
