Singer-songwriter Oliver Pinder adds a dash of electronic flair to new single “Suffocating”
Based in West Yorkshire, singer-songwriter Oliver Pinder shares his enchanting new single “Suffocating”.
Pinder’s debut EP Island Rain - released in March 2015 - offers an introspective look into the world of the young singer-songwriter. “Suffocating” follows that collection and last year’s “Give Me Something”, showing clear growth in Pinder’s artistry since these releases.
“The song is about how people struggle to find themselves due to the number of people shaping them [into] what the media thinks they should be,” explains Pinder. This struggle is not only something Pinder has seen in observation of society, but is also something he’s had to deal with when it comes to his music. Written following the release of his first EP, "Suffocating" stems from a time “when everyone constantly had a view of how I should be as an artist. I realised the number of people who can’t be who they want to be because of their parents’ views, and who worry about how anyone could react to them being themselves.”
The music video, premiering here alongside the track, was filmed a five minute walk from Pinder’s family home - particularly fitting, as “Suffocating” was written about not only about his own experiences, but those of his friends too.
