Oklou's "Forever" is a charming mission statement on post-relationship empowerment
You might remember MaryLou Mayniel- aka - Oklou from her debut EP The Rite of May, which dropped in February last year.
The French producer, vocalist and composer grew up in the countryside and relocated to Paris four years ago, co-founding club collective and label NUXXE with Coucou Chloe, Scottish beat maker Sega Bodega and south London vocalist Shygirl.
Her music, rooted in R&B and pop, finds its balance through a nuanced meshing of melody and theme. New track “Forever” dwells on post-relationship empowerment and the song's torn edges see Mayniel's vocal dripping into a beautiful half-whisper.
“It’s about forgiveness and using mistakes as some sort of cement,” says Mayniel. “Something that is so powerful that you’ll remember it forever.”
