Listen: NZCA Lines - "New Atmosphere" [Premiere]
Michael Lovett, aka NZCA LINES, makes a welcome return with “New Atmosphere”, premiering today on Best Fit.
Though “New Atmosphere” is his first new material since 2012, Lovett picks up right where he left off. Big drums with 80s-style reverb keep the beat as bassy synths roll in like waves over their slightly detuned cousins, which manage to carry the melody while retaining an air of the apocalyptic. With his moody falsetto (he cites Aaliyah as his biggest influence), Lovett further explores the spacy themes of some of his early work, keeping his head in the clouds (or perhaps above them) as on standout cut “Airlock”.
Lovett has also said of the track:
"I'm excited to share this first track from NZCA LINES material i've been working on since the last release. New Atmosphere is an introduction to the world these new tracks inhabit. It's a love song from the perspective of scientists terraforming a planet, and your own fantasy when you meet someone for the first time."
"New Atmosphere" is released on 8 December via Moshi Moshi Singles Club along with B-side "Cirrus Forming".
