Norwegians Nylenda head down a cosmic highway on the motorik "Burning Eyes"
Hailing from Stavanger but with more than a hint of '70s Germany about them, Nylenda's debut single is a stunning introduction to their world.
The Norwegians are made up of Øivind Hatleskog, brothers John and Sigbjørn Håland, and with first single "Burning Eyes" there's no doubt where the trio's influences lie.
An insistent electronic pulse reminiscent of the likes of Harmonia and Neu! combines with a percussive groove and psychedelic vocals, bringing together '60s looseness and '70s rigidity. The effect is for "Burning Eyes" to be a track which you can equally imagine being at home in a studio surrounded by antiquated recording devices as it would being blasted out at a club. Sure, it's meticulously crafted, but it's also danceable as hell.
"The music video for 'Burning Eyes' is made by Øystein Braut from the excellent band Electric Eye," Nylenda (which is Norwegian for 'new land') tells us. "The video takes you on a psychedelic trip down a dusty highway which features an eagle, a double sun and waterfalls. Have a nice trip!"
