Noga Erez unveils the spectacular visuals for new track "Toy"
Tel Aviv-based Noga Erez has already made an incredible impact through her singles "Dance While You Shoot" and "Pity", and is back with another politically-charged offering.
"Toy" is a track about the perils of leadership when the person in charge lacks experience. Particularly pertinent given the current political climate, the lines "I wear a crown with my head down / long heavy gown / has my bent spine" hang heavy in the air.
Musically, the track is slippery and slow-motion, with clattering percussion and ominous synth sounds creating an unsettling atmosphere. It's more of an involving, stop-start jam than Erez's previous tracks but it's another example of the incredible talent and potential she has at her disposal.
Erez explains "'Toy'" is sung from the point of view of someone who has inherited leadership, regardless of their talent or experience. The lyrics, while short, are meant to show the contrast between someone who disowns his 'crown' vs. someone who embraces the privilege, entitlement and influence and uses it for their own personal needs. They become self-absorbed and destructive. Showing how quickly and easily power can corrupt a person."
There's also a video, directed by Hen Makhluf and edited by Noga Erez’s musical collaborator, Ori Rousso, to accompany "Toy", with Erez and some dancers on a Tel Aviv rooftop. Once again it's a visually stunning piece, proving that Noga Erez has an eye to match her musical ear.
