Nite Flights mixes eastern psych with house on the hypnotic "Mäster Araya"
Nite Flights, the alter ego of Azure Blue's Tobias Isaksson, has followed up his Jet Lag debut with a brand new banger of a track.
"Mäster Araya", named in tribute to Swedish synth legend Daniel Araya, mixes the east with the west in a hypnotic and delightful trip.
From the start there's a thud of Chicago house 909s, but Isaksson adds a sitar motif and mantra-like vocals for a touch of sub-continent mysticism. As the track builds there's also tropical steel pans, but nothing can really pull your ear away from the constant and insistent pulse of those classic beats.
Isaksson explains that "Mäster Araya is a tribute to my friend and synth guru Daniel Araya. I missed the last night bus home from the studio one night and decided to make a song for Daniel for a laugh. It was an oddball thing really. I imagined myself as a snake charmer and Mäster Araya was the snake I wanted to lure out of its basket. So a kind of bizarre idea was liked by my crew so we decided to drop it as a single."
"Mäster Araya" is out now via Hybris.
