Feuds are an inescapable by product of the hip-hop industry. The trait of braggadocio is a must for any budding rapper, so it’s not exactly a shocker when these hubris-ridden personas do inevitably collide.
Nicki Minaj and Lil Kim are the latest duo to battle it out in a vicious media rumble of clever wordplay and arrogant lyrical claims.
‘Tragedy’ leaked a couple of days ago. It is Minaj’s (arguably long overdue) retaliation to Lil Kim’s never-ending sniping – an on-going PR stunt that culminated in the birth of the mediocre Black Friday mixtape. Unlike in ‘Roman’s Revenge’, there’s no sense of ambiguity as to who the target is:
”Man you was magic / I mean look at you now hoe you just tragic”
A lurching, oriental-inspired beat soundtracks what has become her trademark pseudo-manic growls and melodramatic ululations. Below is just a taster – expect more hard-hitting punches when the full track appears on Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV this May.
