NewAgeMuzik join Dami Bones and Tobi Notch on Afro R&B slow jam “Brown Skin”
Continuing their role as standard bearers for African culture and music, Nigerian-British duo Kamo and Prince fuse British hip-hop with R&B tinged afrobeats in a bid a create a distinctive global sound.
2017 has seen regularly ignored and marginalised genres given credence due to the success of particular individuals like J-HUS, Not3s, and WizKid. This melding of British and African culture has shined a light on a long established scene that is seeing an exponential rate of growth due to aforementioned artists and new links being forged between the respective music industries in Africa and in Europe.
Another possible reason for this deserved bout of success is the support between artists within the scene. Collaboration leads to achievement seems to be the motto and the ethos is evident in acts like NewAgeMuzik. Known for their underground hits “Trending Topic” and “Da Beat”, the pair have made a move to the mainstream through their work with GA and Dami Bones who count the likes of Kojo Funds, 9ice, and Yxng Bane as collaborators.

On new track “Brown Skin” smooth R&B groove coalesces with Afrobeat sensibilities culminating in a brazen drum and bass instrumental section of epic proportions. This is a taste of upcoming EP CarTunes2 which follows debut EP CarTunes released late last year.
Speaking about the inspiration behind “Brown Skin”, NewAgeMuzik said ““the song was created simply for the ladies, and is especially catered to black women, hence the name ‘Brown Skin’, but we also wanted to send a very conscious message to uplift our black women - they are ‘righteous’ despite how society tries to bring them down, and we have to protect and appreciate them at all times”.
