Baltimore’s New God deliver the first taste of their forthcoming album with the release of title track, “Firework”.
Recorded in an abandoned racquetball court that only serves to blanket their beautifully intricate pop with a feeling of space, “Firework” is surrounded by a natural reverb that allows everything to sound gorgeously smudged at the edges.
Obvious comparisons are with the likes of The Beach Boys and Animal Collective, as an echo works its magic with layers of vocal harmonies: an aural ghost of a younger Brian Wilson. Accompanied by occasional percussion and a swirling synth line, “Firework” has the kind of melody that Wilson himself would be happy with.
Firework is released on 29 July via Yellow K Records. Expect, well, fireworks.
