
Ncognita delivers two minutes of incendiary rap on "Hallucinogen (Trippin’)"
LA rapper Ncognita follows the success of her debut track "Clap Clap" with addictive new cut "Hallucinogen (Trippin’)".
LA’s Ncognita began writing poetry while in elementary school, but it was on hearing the music of J. Cole for the first time that she was influenced to start rapping, mixing her knowing narratives with a relentless and inventive delivery.
On her debut single "Clap Clap" she tells stories over raw, hip hop production that feels as timeless as it does current. But on new single "Hallucinogen (Trippin’)" she ups the ante with a melodic swagger.
Of the single, Ncognita said she wanted to step outside of her usual style and make something unorthodox, "The song induces the tripping feeling that you get when you take too much of anything – be it money, lust, paraphernalia, or weed."
There’s something reminiscent of early Angel Haze in the track, the way her verse continues to bounce as the beat drops out. Ncognita cites Missy Elliot as a major influence, playing with a similar style of self-assured, classic flow. "Trippin', I be sippin' on that loosey shit / Uh, drippin', he don't get it, got that good-good shit / won't you take a look at this? You say you new to this? / But I'on do too much, you get fucked up, now we can't even do shit."
The only complaint here is that "Hallucinogen (Trippin’)" clocks in at just two minutes and entirely leaves you wanting more, hitting repeat for another hit.
