My Ultra Violet embark on a cosmic trip on latest outing "Wilde As Me"
My Ultra Violet continue their leisurely detour following this year’s shimmering debut "Islands"; its saccharine release seeing them comparatively traipse a lot closer to home.
It may only be their second single to date, but My Ultra Violet are well on their way to establishing themselves as a present progression of dream-pop purveyors Cocteau Twins or the more contemporary Beach House.
As is the nucleus of many a good thing, the band met at a gig in L.A and decided to swap numbers, serendipitously embarking on what would be the start of a fruitful collaboration.
Channelling their love of 80s nostalgia and elegantly moody pop, "Wilde Is Me" deploys flourishes of synth amidst steady grooves in what is set to be their benchmark sound. Playful and echoing melodies encourage the physical coercion with vocalist Dexy Valentine (also of Magic Wands) striking a nonchalant stance in her delivery, creating an immersive and hazy atmosphere that touches upon the celestial.
The track itself sees Valentine reference the contrived nature of pop music, highlighting the “internal irony” of the track’s lyrics and how “lyrics in pop songs in general… tend to be shallower and more blatant”. As her literary icon and the song’s namesake Oscar Wilde once said: “only the shallow know themselves”.
