Mumble Tide have the last laugh on snarling new single "Sucker"
Bristol-based duo Mumble Tide make goodbyes sound easy with their latest bedroom-pop anthem.
Gina Leonard and Ryan Rogers met via a Gumtree ad. Leonard was looking for a bassist and ended up with her second half – musically and romantically. Creating their own judgement-free zone, Leonard and Rogers' partnership flourished into Mumble Tide. Bringing together '90s scuzz, guitar hooks with Leonard's captivating vocals, the pair put out their debut EP Love Thing last year.
Returning with "Sucker", Leonard explains "this one is just a super fun track we threw together. It’s about feeling confident and free and moving on (or at least trying to). It’s about throwing the baggage off your shoulders and strutting away…but also accepting that it’s not that easy.”
The hard part about saying goodbye is sure as hell worth the reward of a clean break and within this swirling soup of bedroom-orchestrated noise, Mumble Tide deliver a scrappy kiss-off to their past.
This blistering new single builds up to a chaotic closing act complete with what sounds like a manic brass section, wailing guitar riffs and agonising screams. Pounding drums introduce Leonard's final battle cry as she once again declares "I smell guilty / I smell off", before breaking into the track's cathartic chorus.
